Need more sleep…
September 28, 2002
I’m fixin’ to need a full week’s sleep after this weekend is over.
Michelle came up Thursday like we planned, but we didn’t leave Dallas until 9pm which put us back in SA after 1:30am. We crashed pretty hard (and I could have slept until Noon), but we pulled ourselves together at 9am to go get the U-Haul truck. The pickup went well and we spent the rest of the afternoon loading the truck.
We finished loading stuff from a storage unit Michelle had at about 3:30pm, but then we had to get the rest of her furniture from her parent’s house. There was a momentary pause while we waited for her father to get home so he could help us load Michelle’s GINORMOUS bedroom cabinets (Thanks Pops!).
After wrapping up at the house we got on the road and grabbed some dinner just outside of San Antonio. It was almost 9:30pm before we started heading north again so needless to say we didn’t arrive here until close to 3am. (The truck was VERY slow)
Add-in the hour or so that we spent getting settled kittens once we were here and I think we crashed somewhere after 4:30am. Michelle’s still sleepin’ it off, me I’m plannin’ our attack today as we still have a truck full of stuff to unload… Aack!
What Is A Sonofabitch?

Survey says “This is a sonofabitch“.
Make it stop…
September 24, 2002
…this pounding in my head won’t go away. I’m not gonna say it’s a migraine `cause I’d be unable to sit here yappin’ away about the pain. I’m probably just dehydrated, been on the computer all day. Spent my six hours online completing my Defensive Driver course - yeah! Glad that’s over with, glad that I won’t be getting any more speeding tickets racing down to San Antonio now that Michelle will be here.
Speaking of which, we’re only two days away before the our Dallas adventures begin. The weekend should be intense, as Michelle’s drivin’ up here Thursday so we can turn around and drive back to San Antonio that same night. This prevents us having an extra car while we move, but she’s sure to be tired after 8 hours on the road.
We’ll spend Friday finishing any packing and getting the truck loaded. With a little luck we hope to get started back to Dallas Friday evening, but I’m thinkin’ it will be an early Saturday start. Round out the weekend with some unpacking (and hopefully time to watch some NFL games) and we’ll both be passed out when Monday comes around.
On the road again…
September 20, 2002
I’m off to San Antonio to help Michelle pack for the move up here so I thought I’d help everyone with a little light reading from Moby Dick.
Enjoy the weekend!!!
Driving In Dallas.
September 19, 2002
Fred e-mailed this to me this evening:
Some Rules For Those Who Would Visit Dallas…
First you must learn to pronounce the city name. It is DAL-LUS, or DAA-LIS depending on if you live inside or outside LBJ Freeway.
Next, if your Mapsco is more than a few weeks old, throw it out and buy a new one.
If in you live Denton County and your Mapsco is one day old, then it is already obsolete.
Forget the traffic rules you learned elsewhere. Dallas has its own version of traffic rules … “Hold on and pray”.
There is no such thing as a dangerous high-speed chase in Dallas. We all drive like that.
All directions start with, “Get on Beltline”…which has no beginning and no end.
The morning rush hour is from 6AM to 10AM.
The evening rush hour is from 3PM to 8PM.
Friday’s rush hour starts Thursday morning.
If you actually stop at a yellow light, you will be rear ended, cussed out and possibly shot. When you are the first one on the starting line, count to five when the light turns green before going to avoid crashing with all the drivers running the red light in cross-traffic.
Construction on Central Expressway is a way of life and a permanent form of entertainment. We had sooo much fun with that we have added George Bush Freeway and the High Five to the mix.
All unexplained sights are explained by the phrase, “Oh, we’re in Fort Worth!”
If someone actually has their turn signal on, it is probably a factory defect.
Car horns are actually “Road Rage” indicators.
All old ladies with blue hair in Mercedes have the right of way. Period.
Inwood Road, Plano Road, NW Highway, East Grand, Garland Road, Marsh Lane, Josey Lane, 15th Street, Preston Road… all mysteriously change names as you cross intersections (these are only a FEW examples).
The perfect example is what is MOSTLY known as Plano Road. On the south end it is known as Lake Highlands Drive, cross Northwest Highway and it becomes Plano Road, go about 8 miles and it is briefly Greenville Ave, Ave K, and Highway 5. It ends in Sherman.
If asking directions in Irving or SE Dallas, you must have knowledge of Spanish. If in central Richardson or on Harry Hines, Mandarin Chinese will be your best bet. If you stop to ask directions on Gaston or Live Oak, you better be armed.
A trip across town (east to west) will take a minimum of four hours, although many north/south freeways have unposted minimum speeds of 75.
The minimum acceptable speed on the Dallas North Toll Road is 85. Anything less is considered downright sissy.
The wrought iron on windows near Oak Cliff and Fair Park is not ornamental.
It is possible to be driving WEST in the NORTH-bound Lane of EAST NORTHWEST highway. Don’t let this confuse you.
The North Dallas Tollway is our daily version of NASCAR. It also ends in Sherman.
LBJ is called “The Death Trap” for two reasons: “death” and “trap.”
If it’s 100 degrees, Thanksgiving must be next weekend.
If it’s 10 degrees and sleeting/snowing, the Fort Worth Stock Show is going on.
If it’s rained 6 inches in the last hour, the Byron Nelson Golf Classic is in the second round if it is Spring - and it is the Texas State Fair if it is Fall.
If you go to the Fair, pay the $5.00 to park INSIDE Fair Park. Parking elsewhere could cost up to $2500 for damages, towing fees, parking tickets, etc.
If some guy with a flag tries to get you to park in his ’yard’, run over him.
Any amusement parks, stadiums, arenas, race tracks, airports, etc. are conveniently located as far away from EVERYTHING as possible so as to allow for ample parking on grassy areas.
Final warning: Don’t Mess With Texas Drivers.
Crazy Busy…
September 19, 2002
WOW! I could use a break, been runnin’ non-stop since 7am. Workin’ on some stuff for Jennifer and I had a couple of meetings this morning that ran later than I anticipated. Heh, and I need to get crackin’ on that online defensive driver course.
Oh! Before I forget Mia’s got a great online forum over at her website kissable.org. Be sure to check it out. Her layout is pretty amazing as well.
Michelle Is Moving To Dallas!
September 18, 2002
Woo Hoo! My baby is going to be here permanently. After almost a year of commuting between Dallas & San Antonio we’re making the next big jump in our relationship. It’ll be me, Michelle and five crazy felines. The world is a happy place right now.
Will It Never End?
September 16, 2002
Well, take a look around because a lot was done on the site today. I converted the last of the photo albums I had on the old website - Yippee!
Basically, the albums are now where they were several months ago (except for the addition of 2002). I still have to redo the captions and I’m still editing the photos that never got posted.
I did have some time to post “new” pics. Checkout our lake adventure which happened at the beginning of the summer. And there were just a few photos from Geoff’s birthday last Friday.
Lazy weekend…
September 15, 2002
Michelle & I kicked off our weekend at GameWorks where we joined Geoff for a belated birthday celebration. (His birthday was Sept 11th) Will post those pictures later today.
Been pretty lazy ever since. Yesterday we ran a couple of errands, e.g. groceries & knick knacks for the house, then we somehow got sucked into a Real World marathon for the rest of the evening. We made a channel change well after 9pm when I threw in “Pitch Black” with Vin Diesel. Cool movie, MUCH better if you watch the Director’s Cut. It was a late night and Michelle’s still sleepin’ it off… *wicked grin*
Right now there’s NFL games playin’ in the background while I check out the latest on the `Net.
I got some great feedback over at the Oish forums about my website. In response to what was said I will be doing more work on the photo albums this week. For those who don’t know I converted all my original albums from a CGI script (written by Mark) to a PHP module by Gallery. I’ve been able to repost a lot of my pictures, but there are more recent photos that I need to get up here.
Look for photo links to come back to the Who’s Who section as well as some newer photos.
A Day Of Remembrance.
